JPG to PNG

Turn JPG photos and exports into PNG files. The conversion runs inside this page, so your images are never uploaded anywhere.

Free – No sign-up – Nothing is uploaded

Private by design

Files never leave your device – conversion runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, so there is nothing to store and nothing to delete.

Free, no watermark

No account, no daily cap and no logo stamped on your images. You download the full-size result.

Up to 20 at once

Drop a whole batch in. Download the results one by one or grab everything as a single ZIP.

No upload, no queue

There is no progress bar to sit through and no server to wait for. Large photos convert as fast as your device can draw them.

How it works

1

Add your JPG files

Drop them on the box above or pick them from your device. Up to 20 images per batch.

2

Press Convert

Each image is decoded and re-encoded as PNG on your own machine. Nothing is sent anywhere.

3

Download the PNGs

Save them individually from the gallery, or take the whole batch as one ZIP file.

When PNG is the format you actually need

Most of the time a JPG is fine. The moments it is not are specific and easy to recognise: an upload form that rejects everything except PNG, a design tool that wants a lossless source, a logo or screenshot where JPG has smeared the sharp edges into a grey haze, or an image you are about to edit and re-save several times over.

That last case is the one people underestimate. Every time a JPG is opened, changed and saved again, the compressor runs afresh and quietly eats a little more detail. Convert to PNG once and that spiral stops: what you save is exactly what you had, however many rounds of edits follow.

What this tool does, and what it cannot do

  • It converts the container, not the content. Detail JPG already discarded cannot be brought back by any format.
  • It keeps the full resolution. Nothing is downscaled, cropped or re-framed.
  • It respects photo orientation. Pictures taken sideways on a phone come out the right way up rather than rotated.
  • It expects PNG to be larger. Lossless storage costs space; that is the trade you are making.

If your real goal is a smaller file rather than a lossless one, JPG to WEBP is the better move: WEBP typically lands well under the JPG it came from at the same visible quality. And if the images are pages of a document rather than pictures, JPG to PDF turns the pile into one file that portals will accept.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a JPG to PNG for free?

+

Add the JPG above and press Convert. The file is decoded and re-saved as PNG inside your browser, then appears in the gallery with a download button. There is no account, no watermark and no limit on how many times you do it.

Does converting JPG to PNG improve the image quality?

+

No, and no converter can. JPG throws away detail when it is first saved, and that detail is gone for good. What PNG gives you is a lossless container from that point on: every later save keeps exactly what you have instead of degrading it further.

Will the PNG have a transparent background?

+

Not automatically. JPG has no transparency to carry over, so the converted PNG keeps the original background as solid pixels. PNG can hold transparency, so you can now erase the background in an image editor and it will stay transparent when you save.

Why is the PNG file bigger than the JPG?

+

That is expected. PNG stores every pixel exactly, while JPG compresses by discarding information. For photographs the PNG is often several times larger. If size matters more than losslessness, convert to WEBP instead using the format switch above.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

+

No. This tool uses your browser’s own image decoder and canvas, so the file is read from disk into the page and never sent over the network. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the conversion still works.

Can I convert several JPG files at the same time?

+

Yes, up to 20 per batch. Every image is converted in turn and lands in the result gallery, where you can download them one at a time or all together as a ZIP archive.
